I have big reading goals for 2026 and . . . for the moment I’m not crushing it!
I use the goal tracker on Goodreads and I’m currently 5 books behind on reaching my goal.
Well, I hope I catch up as the year goes on!
Here are four books I’m reading right now
The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi
I was reading a different book out loud to my daughters and I could tell we were all losing a lot of energy (when we’re down to reading once a week, you know, that’s not a good sign). I suggested we pack this book and we moved on to the next book on our list, which is this one. I loved this book when I was a pre-teen and read it aloud to my kids about 5 years ago, but my three youngest daughters have almost no memory of it, so it’s fun to revisit it!
Unreasonable hospitality by Will Guidara
I can’t remember who recommended this book to me, but it showed up in my library’s backlog and I LOVE IT so much. Lucky Bart hears about it every day as I read it. This is one of those books that I think works really well as a parenting and relationships book as much as it does as a business book! Plus, it’s so readable – I was hooked from the first page!
The first state of being by Erin Entrada Kelly
A friend in my neighborhood invited my 10-year-old and me to join a mother/daughter book club and it was the first choice. My daughter has already finished it and I’m about 1/3 of the way through and really enjoying it. I found his first Newbery book, Hello Universe, a bit slow, but this one was a quick read for me! I can’t wait to meet him and discuss it!
Kate Quinn’s Code of Roses
After January’s book club pick for the Everyday Reading Book Club (The Heather Club), I immersed myself in this book by the same author. I love a good historical fiction novel and many people have said this is their favorite Kate Quinn book, so I’m excited to dive into this one (I’m only a few chapters in so far!).

I Who Never Knew a Man by Jacqueline Harpman
I spent one of my Audible credits on this and I can’t decide if I’m glad I did. The story follows 39 women and one girl locked in an underground cage. They have no memory of how they got there, why they are there, no concept of time and are monitored 24 hours a day by guards. Their memories from before are present but not complete. This one started out really strong for me, but I’m starting to run out of steam. Here’s hoping he redeems himself with an exceptional ending.

The one with Cindy Steel’s Kiss Cam
This book is a sweet and light romance that is easy to immerse yourself in at the end of the day. I picked it up after seeing it on Kindle Unlimited, and it turned out to be the perfect bedtime read. The story follows Nora and Duke who are unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight after an awkward (and very public) Kiss Cam moment at a Jazz game. What starts as a cringe-worthy situation turns into a slowly building feel-good romance filled with humor, chemistry, and tender moments. This was such a fun book to read at night, the kind that feels cozy and comforting as I fall asleep.

The Seven Year Slide by Ashley Poston
I started reading this one after seeing it in Subscribers’ Favorite Books of 2025, and because it was instantly available on Libby. The perfectly planned life of overworked journalist Clementine unravels when she inherits her aunt’s magical apartment and falls in love with Iwan, a charming chef who somehow sublet it seven years ago. This was a really fun unexpected read, and I thought the epilogue really brought everything together.
