Navigating Dubai Roads and Auto Services During New Year’s Eve

Dubai, the main commercial hub of the United Arab Emirates, is gearing up for the new year. Roads would be congested ahead of New Year’s Eve, especially in popular locations like Downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa and Palm Jumeirah.

Negotiate traffic

Roads can be congested; Road closures and traffic diversions are common. So plan your route in advance. Look for notifications from the Road and Transport Authority (RTA).

If possible, avoid rush hour traffic between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

GPS or Google Maps can help you find alternative routes to avoid rush hour traffic.

If you want to navigate traffic without offending others, you must be patient and accept delays. Follow the rules and drive carefully to enjoy the incredible light shows, fireworks, dancing, music and shopping. Taking public transportation, such as trams and buses, or using car rental services like Careem or Uber, can be useful during rush hours. Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. If you plan to drink, consider hiring a driver or using an auto transport service.

Car maintenance

Keep the car in good working order to avoid unexpected breakdowns or repairs.

  • Regular service: If the car needs regular maintenance, you can’t afford to miss it before New Year’s Eve.

Vehicle Maintenance Checklist

  • Drain: If the oil has become dirty, it must be changed to avoid engine damage. Or recharge to the required level.
  • Liquid fillings: Make sure all fluids, such as coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid, are sufficient.
  • Battery: Check voltage, terminal corrosion and electrical circuits to avoid unexpected breakdowns.
  • Tires: Ensure sufficient tread depth, inflate the tires and remember to rotate the tires to avoid uneven wear.
  • First aid kit and tools: The car must have a first aid kit containing bandages, antiseptic solutions, gauze and cotton wool.

Have jumper cables for battery repair and basic tools such as a jack, spanner, and screwdrivers. Carry a flashlight with extra batteries for working in the dark.

Regular car maintenance includes inspection of engine oil and fluids, brakes, suspension, batteries, tires and other components. With a little planning and awareness, you could have a memorable and enjoyable New Year’s Eve in Dubai.

As Dubai gears up for its stunning New Year’s Eve events, you’ll need to plan ahead to avoid traffic jams. Sheikh Zayed Road, Burj Khalifa Street and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard will close at 4 p.m. on December 31. To make things easier, consider taking the Dubai Metro, which will run continuously from 5 a.m. on December 31 until midnight on January 1. And if public transportation isn’t your thing, don’t worry; 29,000 taxis will be available to help you get around the city.
